Consulting and implementation of R2v3 Standard

Preparation and implementation of the R2v3 standard for companies involved in the recycling/reuse of electronic components

We help companies in Denmark, Scandinavia, and Northern Europe prepare for and implement the comprehensive procedures and documents associated with the international R2v3 Standard.

The organisation behind R2v3:

What does the R2v3 Standard consist of?

The R2v3 standard is structured around 10 focus areas (Core Requirements), several associated appendices (A-G), and a product definition (REC: R2 Equipment Categorization), which together form the basis for issuing an R2v3 certification that is audited annually:

Core 1: Scope
Core 2: Hierachy of Responsible Management Strategies
Core 3: EH&S Management System (ISO/RIOS)
Core 4: Legal and Other Requirement
Core 5: Tracking Throughout
Core 6: Sorting, Categorizing, Processing
Core 7: Data Security
Core 8: Focus Materials
Core 9: Facility Requirements
Core 10: Transport

Appendices A-G are attached, and depending on which business areas the company wishes to have certified, an audit will include these. NB: Appendix G is only relevant for companies that handle solar cells for recycling.

Why implement the R2v3 Standard?

The goal is to ensure high quality, high data security, and transparency in all processes, thereby ensuring the correct and responsible handling of electronics for reuse and/or recycling. Re-Use First is the starting point.

The standard ensures a mechanism that can manage and communicate the commitment to leadership in operations, security—including data security in particular—and environmental/occupational performance, responsibility for e-waste until final disposal.

The practice of receiving, refurbishing, dismantling, recycling, and reusing electronics carries potential health and environmental risks. R2 also ensures best practices for these challenges.

What are the benefits of R2v3 certification?

  • Reduce environmental impact through a commitment to introduce processes and documentation for handling electronic waste for reuse/recycling.
  • Improve worker health and safety through robust internal practices and create a good, solid working environment for employees
  • Protect the recycling chain through continuous monitoring and supervision, thereby ensuring high traceability and documentation.
  • Collaborate with downstream companies across national borders to optimize the reuse of components by the best possible buyers.
  • Overview and control by giving your customers confidence that you can consistently meet their expectations for maintaining data security.
  • Competitive advantages in connection with large tenders and international deliveries, etc., and increased documentation for data security.

How to get started with the R2v3 Standard

Start with an online presentation of the R2v3 standard and let’s talk about scope, budget, your ambitions, schedule, etc.

Review meeting at the company
If you find a further process relevant, we will meet at the company (possibly online) with the following agenda.

  • Review of overall business foundation
  • Current process descriptions/certifications, etc.
  • Review of R2 standards and clarification of needs, etc.
  • Preparation of a schedule/action plan for approval by the company and budget
  • Review of the company over 3 days – observations, interviews, etc.
  • Summary note on necessary areas of action, etc., and recommendations
  • Decision proposal on further process (Stop/Go) – review for the company
  • Work schedule for weeks 5-32, including role allocation, etc.
  • Application to the Certifying Body is recommended to be submitted early
  • Ongoing descriptions, etc., online meetings and updates, progress, tasks, etc.
  • Internal work process CORE 1-5 – according to schedule
  • Internal audit according to R2 Standards
  • Internal work process CORE 6-10 – incl. REC and Appendices A-F
  • Internal audit according to R2 Standards and note preparation – prepared by external auditor
  • Testing of overall system – 2-day review – Re-audit memo prepared – prepared by external auditor
  • Adjustments to descriptions
  • Start-up of process under SERI auspices for final certification in collaboration with CB

What are the requirements for the company’s processes and certifications?

The company must already have ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 implemented and be certified according to these standards in order to become R2v3 certified.
